MSPOL1340 Theories of democracy
This seminar is interested in the international issues of the day. Accordingly, the themes will vary each year. However, every year, attention will be equally paid to transversal and regional problems. Among the first set, issues such as the global financial crisis or peacekeeping reforms will be studied. Among the second set, issues such as the maritime tensions between China and Japan, the struggle for the Arctic, or peacebuilding in the African Great Lakes region will be studied. Themes the students did not have the opportunity to work on before will be favored.
At the end of the seminar, the student will be able to analyze a set of current international issues, some of which are linked to transversal problems, the others to regional stakes. Thanks to the tools with which s.he will get acquainted during the seminar, the student will be able to identify and interpret wider international stakes and analyze them in a critical manner and through the mobilization of the relevant theoretical and conceptual tools.

Evaluation is based on the constitution of files on the current issues under study + participation to the debates; written policy paper
Seminar resting on the full participation of all students in the preparation of each class session; contribution of external experts
The course content will vary each year depending on the interests of the group of students ; yet it will be structured around:
- transversal international issues
- regional issues
The process is fundamentally participative and collaborative and will involve experience sharing thanks to external experts
Reading files will be gradually developed by the students throughout the term.
