Content

Part 1 :

Three types of time frames and locations have generated regionalist architectures:

  1. the emergence in the second half of the 19th century of regional cultural identities in opposition to nation states convening a regional architecture in mind
  2. consecutive reconstructions to two world wars have juxtaposed throughout Europe modernity and regional reference; in city and rural areas, Belgium (Resurgeam) as in France
  3. the appearance of "neo-rural" in the 1970s, the "fermettisation" architecture of the market, some even populism claim a regionalist reference.

Part 2 :

It makes clear how some architects act towards the antagonism between a globalized world and local specificities.
The development of the Learning Unit was done upstream and below from Kenneth Frampton's text, Towards a critical regionalism: Six points for an architecture of resistance.

That part of the Learning can be resumed as follows :

First part :

Understanding of the actual world and its issues.
That's why there is an introduction on the following subjects:

  • modernity
  • globalization
  • globalization, architecture and critical regionalism.

Second part :

How architecture gives an answer to the global world and to the necessity to be part of the local culture.
Case study.
