Some idea of the general history of museums would be an advantage.
The course deals with the paradoxical situation of the institution of the museum today, caught as it is between spectacular growth and a feeling of crisis. Faced with the danger of commodification and the challenge of territorial development, is the museum in danger of losing its soul? Or should it rather take on new missions? The course will provide an introduction to the various factors that contribute to building the 'identity' of a museum.

Oral presentation of a case study to the class and oral examination (open question prepared by the student)
Encounters between different positions (pluralist selection of texts, teacher's standpoint, contributions from students)
The course compares the recent theories of museologists with the echoes of museum issues found in the mainstream press. Theoretical issues are given flesh by means of numerous case studies.
