The Operations Management are presented into the general scheme of the supply chain. After this introduction, the main concepts of the production are defined and different tools and frames of reference are explained in order to enable a rational and structured approach of the operations management.

 

Using a simple guiding example, the basis of the production management are explained more in details:

·      The master data

·      The production orders

·      The different cost calculations and the relationship between the production and the controlling

·      The different levels of planning their complementarity

·      The MRP and the direct link with the stock management and the purchasing process

·      The stock management process

·      The purchasing cycle and the management of the suppliers' relations

 

Introducing the Lean Manufacturing, different tools and operations models are described: Value Stream Mapping, 6 sigma, just-in-time, pushed and pull production, Kanban, OPT '

 

The basics of the maintenance operations management are then presented, including the maintenance master data (functional hierarchy, equipment, maintenance plan) and the general maintenance process.

 

All the concepts and notions are used to explain how to build an operations management system based on the business processes and the ISA95 multilevel model.

Aims

The objectives of this course are

·      To introduce the basic concepts of the operations management

·      To present a frame model structuring the different functional area

·      To initiate the students into the tools and technics used by the different departments to analyse and manage the company

·      To illustrate the relationships between the different functions of the operations management and also with other functional areas of the enterprise management

 

The course also refer to other courses like the accounting, the controlling and the project management.

 

At the end, the student could analyse globally the operations management of a manufacturing company and suggest some evolutions.

Evaluation methods

An oral exam is organised, based on open questions covering a chapter or a large notion.

An alternative is proposed to everyone who wants apply some concepts to their company or organisation.

·      Exercises are proposed to apply some notions
