Main themes

In relation to the course "questions spéciales - art contemporain", the seminar of this year will approach contemporary art through its ways of being displayed in museums in Belgian and abroad (Wiels, Brussels; MAC's, Grand-Hornu; MuHKA (Antwerp), S.M.A.K., Gent; Museum Ludwig (Cologne), etc.

Aims

The course will deepen the knowledge about the production and the aesthetic concepts in contemporary art. It is the aim of the seminar that the student develops a critical sense and analytical methods as well as the ability to deal with a specific subject in contemporary art.

Evaluation methods

The students are evaluated on the basis of their active participation, a presentation, and a paper on a specific subject.

Teaching methods

Group work : Conception of an exhibition + oral papers.


 

Content

The course deals with artists' publications of the 1960s and 1970s. On the basis of works from the museums of Louvain-la-Neuve and of Mariemont, the students conceive an exhibition on the topic : « Experimental spaces. Artists' publications from the 1960s and 1970s ».
