Content

The aim of this course is to explore the potentials of the 'suburbanist' hypothesis: shaping the contemporary metropolis through the highlighting of its geographical substrate. In order to reach this goal, the course is divided into three parts:

  • Looking back at the history of landscaping practices : Italian gardens (XV-XVI), French gardens (XVI-XVII), English gardens (XVIII), American park systems (XIX), modernist green spaces (XX 1/2), postmodernist urban landscapes (XX 2/2);
  • Contemporary practices : recent project reactivating the historical background of landscape architecture into the metropolitan context;
  • Prospective: analyzing the relationships between topography and morphology of the build elements into a fragment of territory.
