Main themes

Deepening of the knowledge of the stylistic trends in painting from the end of the middle ages to 17th century, as they developed outside Italy: Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque, Classicism. Particularly the works of Dürer, Breugel and Rubens will be studied. An opening to the field of engraving and stained-glass will be proposed.

Aims The students will acquire a basic knowledge in the field of the painting from the 15th to the 17th centuries in the Southern Low Countries.
Evaluation methods

Oral examination, personal report, oral presentation (if possible). The evaluation system is subject to change if the exercices should be adapted to the number of students.

The content could change each year. One or several themes will be studied during the courses and during the visits in Belgium museums.
