The iCampus server allows one to obtain:

LGLOR1621/1621A  and LGLOR1622/1622A or a course deemed equivalent by the lecturer.

In-depth study of the language and texts of Pharaonic Egypt.

Alternately with LGLOR2621A, this course deals with the following themes:

1. Translation, with comments, of a literary text in Middle Egyptian (15 hours lectures);
2. Translation, with commentaries, of royal and private inscriptions (15 hours lectures).

At the end of this course the student will be capable to read, transliterate and translate easily epigraphic and literary texts in Middle Egyptian.

Oral exam based on written preparation.

Translations are done based on previous preparation by the students.  The correction of the transliteration on the blackboard emphasises the structure and composition of  the phrases, as well as an analysis of the verbal forms that are encountered. A commentary on the historical or religious questions completes the grammatical analysis of the text.

The course aims to deepen and enlarge the knowledge and practice of the  language that was learnt in the first cycle. According to the year, the themes treated  will be studied in the light of the following texts:

1. Literary text in middle Egyptian: theTale of Sinuhe (first half), theTale of the Eloquent Peasant, the Teaching of Ptahhotep, etc.

2. Epigraphic texts: royal or private stela, cave inscriptions, inscriptions on historic scenes (Old, Middle or New Kingdom).
