The student will receive in this seminar the grounding necessary to carry out a research task in the field of contemporary Spanish literature and to take part in a scholarly debate in this field.

Essay.

Students will be introduced to the issues covered by the workshop through discussion of theoretical and critical articles. On this basis, they produce their own analysis that will be the subject of an oral presentation and discussion, as well as an article.

The seminar will focus on the study of representations of violence in the Peruvian contemporary novel. It will study three novels which thematize the recent violence that Peru experienced in the context of the war between the subversive group Sendero Luminoso and the Peruvian State in the 80s and 90s: La hora azul (2005 ) Alonso Cueto, Abril rojo (2006) de Santiago Roncagliolo, y  Un lugar llamado Oreja de Perro (2008) de Iván Thays. On the one hand, we will highlight the place of literature in the construction of historical memory. On the other hand, we'll problematize some theoretical assumptions related to the notion of representation, which tighten  the relationship between the Andean cultural framework and the circulation of literary production in a global  world.
