The course is divided in two parts.
The first one is related to the EU external borders policy and consequently to these topics: free movement of persons, immigration, asylum and visas policies. The ongoing communitarization of these areas will be underlined.
The second one will deal with the police and judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters. Main aspects will be approached:
- judicial cooperation (mutual recognition and enforcement of judgments)
- police cooperation (creation of coordinating bodies, operative information, training of personnel)
- EU's relations with third countries
- EU's policies (fight against terrorism, organized crime, drug abuse and the trade in illicit drugs)
- prospects (Lisbon treaty, enhanced cooperations, passerelle clause).
