Content |
The content varies from year to year. It relates to the works of the standard repertoire and their stage productions, and draws on theatrical texts, theoretical writings and iconographic documents relating to the subjects considered. This year, the course will deal with Henrik Ibsen's stagings (period 1980-2011). After describing the main dramaturgic issues of Ibsen's writing, which contributed for a good part to the shift of the dramatic form in the late 19th century, we'll watch and analyse a sample of various stagings (Nader Borhani Marand, Stephane Braunschweig, Lee Breuer, Alain Françon, Kamaludin Nilu, Thomas Ostermeier, Michael Thalheimer, Ivo Van Hove, Peter Zadek...).
We'll also consider to what extend Ibsen's theatre is challenging the theatrical practice as well as it is questionning, from France to Iran, the discourses and representations of contemporary societies.
