Main themes - The precise topics will vary and will be selected by mutual agreement between the two teachers. Generally, they relate to social violence, considered under specific aspects.
Aims -Develop a capacity to locate contemporary social phenomena in the middle and long run of history -Develop a capacity to use the resources of "history" (as a discipline) in sociological research -Clarify and overcome the contingencies which determined the frequent opposition between the two disciplines
Content Method : The course is conceived so as to allow a progression through which students end up practicing themselves the exercise of integrating sociological and historical approaches. It is thus divided into several parts : 1) On the topic selected: the teacher gives a synthesis of the contribution of history and sociology. 2) On the basis of bibliographies provided by the teachers, the students will chose a subject for their personal paper. The chosen theme and the methodology used is subject to teachers approval. 3) Day of presentation of the students' essays followed by a debate. Before the oral presentation, the students' papers will be read by the teachers. The students will get a feed back during a second discussion with the teach-ers.
