Main themes - Environment in which artefacts are situated in museums; - construction materials of objects and works of art in museums; - concepts of restoration; - guidelines for restoration; - preventative conservation.
Aims Questions of conservation and the protection of cultural heritage.
Content Cultural heritage: history of the conservation concept, charters and authorities Conservation/restoration: two missions : - preventive conservation; - history of restoration (mainly in Belgium); - development of restoration rules (charters, theories,....); - principles of restoration (deontology,...). Conservation: - environment; - recommendation for the conservation of objects occording to their materials; - moving of works of art; - protection of works during unusual circumstances.
Other information Prerequisites : none. Evaluation : oral examination (20 points) Support : student notes. A selective commented bibliography is distributed.
