Main themes The course aims at analyzing the contributions of the theoretical studies in the practice of the general and the specialized translations, as well as in the interpreting practice. The translation theories and the problems relating to the terminology in the field of the translation studies will be approached.
Aims At the end of the course, students will be able to: - analyze in a criticize way the main contemporary translation theories; - understand the questions relating to the terminology in the field of the translation studies.

Content Thirty hours will be dedicated to the study of three translation theories: linguistic theory, sociolinguistic theory and interpretive theory. The course will deal then with questions of terminology (fifteen hours) by means of translations analyses.
Other information Prerequisite: the students must have a solid linguistic knowledge (level C1 of the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages). Evaluation: the students will have to draft a written work which consists in analyzing an English-French or Spanish-French or Italian-French translations (for the students registered on the UCL), or French-English or French-Vietnamese translations (for the students registered on the University of Hanoi). A blended learning approach will be used for UCL's students.
