In the context of the ERC Advanced Grant program ACCOPT, we are delighted to organize a closing workshop, gathering recognized researchers active in the area of algorithmic optimization and its applications to artificial intelligence and data science.

Optimization methods are fundamental to data science and AI, enabling critical tasks such as sparse data recovery, clustering, dimensionality reduction, and data completion. They are also essential for training machine learning models, including neural networks. However, existing optimization methods are being constantly challenged by the particular features of modern applications. For example, emerging problems related to data science and AI often involve a huge number of variables, complex data structure, and may require distributed data support. Consequently, there is a rising demand for the development of new optimization methods customized for specific applications and ideally supported by provable efficiency guarantees. This workshop aims to bring together experts interested in the theory, design, and application of optimization methods. It will serve as a platform for sharing the latest advancements in Algorithmic Optimization, promoting idea exchange and scientific collaborations.

The workshop will also honor Professor Yurii Nesterov, celebrating 50 years of his research career in Optimization.

The detailed program of the workshop is now available, see this page. You can also download the book of abstracts. See also the opening slides.

Thanks to all participants for making this workshop a great success!

Invited speakers

  • Kees Roos
    Delft University of Technology, Netherlands

Registration and poster submission

The workshop will mainly consist of talks by invited speakers. In addition, poster sessions will be organized. If you wish to present a poster, send an email to algopt2024@uclouvain.be with your name and affiliation, a title and a short abstract. The deadline for submission is July 30, 2024, and notification of acceptance will be sent by August 2, 2024.

Due to limited capacity, we are currently limiting participation to invited speakers and researchers that will present a poster.

General schedule

The workshop will take place from August 27 to August 30, 2024. It will consist mainly in talks by invited speakers, with an opportunity for junior researchers to participate to poster sessions.

The detailed program will be communicated at the beginning of August. The scientific program will take place each day between 9:00 and 18:00, with ample time for breaks and lunch.

Deadline for submission of a poster July 30, 2024
Workshop August 27-30, 2024
Banquet dinner August 29, 2024, 7pm

Venue

The workshop will take place at UCLouvain (Université catholique de Louvain), whose main campus is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, a small city 30km to the south-east of Brussels. All events will take place in the Aula Magna building that is located near the city center (5 minute walk from the Grand Place and Martin's hotel, less than 10 minutes from the station). The main room for talks will be the Foyer du Lac.
