Name : HP 4140A

Short description : The Hewlett Packard 4140A pA meter/DC voltage source is the most widely used type of IV meter in the CEM. It is available in most of the labs in which electrical measurements are done. Almost all functions are controllable via the IEEE 488 bus. It has a very stable pA measurement circuit with a resolution of 1fA on the most sensitive range and can measure up to 10mA. It has autoranging capability and a 3 1/2 digit display. Integration times (controllable to some degree) are between 20 and 2000 ms and a current offset facility exists. The instrument contains two programmable voltage sources operating over the range -100 to +100 V with a maximum resolution of 10 mV. One operates only as a dc source while the other can output a continuous ramp, a staircase or operate as a dc source. Maximum available current is 10mA but a current limit facility is available. These capabilities enable it to be used for almost all our IV measurement requirements on semiconductor diodes. It can be used for some DC transistor measurements and for quasi-static CV measurements
