Building the overview of ICT

In a nutshell

ICTs are taking more and more space in our world : they allow us to communicate, to get access to huge streams of information, to control our home remotely, to plan our displacements, to monitor our consumption and to predict our needs... But all these goods are coming with a price.
Usage energy consumption, production energy consumption, end-of-life treatment are direct impacts that we can the most easily address to the ICT but lots of indirect impacts have also to be considered as raw materials supply chains environmental and ethical issues or societal rebound effects.
But on the other hand, ICT allow us for using resources more and more efficiently, for increasing traceability and confidence in our supply chains, for enabling sharing and repairing.

Building the full overview of the ICT is time and energy consuming although it is crucial to better understand the impacts resulting from specific optimization or research. This week is an opportunity to take that time and this first day will lay the foundations of this common ICT overview.
