A Specialised Education in
International Law
A LONG-STANDING TRADITION IN
INTERNATIONAL LAW AND EU LAW
Since its establishment in 1964, the “Charles de Visscher Center for
International and European Law” (CeDIE) has thoroughly contributed to
the
promotion and study of International Law and European Law
. Several
generations of academics have integrated the Center within the UCL Law
Faculty, as witnessed by a large amount of
renowned publications
and
the creation and participation in
high-level european and international
professional networks
. The Advanced Master (LL.M.) in International Law
is therefore rooted in a long-standing research and education tradition,
which, for half a century now, has attracted students from all over the
world.
A HIGH-LEVEL TRAINING
The Advanced Master (LL.M.) in International Law is a one-year
postgraduate programme
(60 ECTS).
The wide range of specialised courses and options allows students to tailor
a personal programme
in public international law or private international
law
, corresponding to their professional aims and meeting the highest
academic standards.
PROGRAMME OPEN TO PRACTITIONERS
Although courses are taught in a day schedule, the Advanced Master in
International Law may be adjusted for professionals already pursuing
a career in a European or international institution, a foreign diplomatic
mission, a NGO, etc.
The MicroMaster in International Law offers a flexible solution for
professionals who are interested in distance-learning.
VISITS OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS,
CONFERENCES AND PROFESSIONAL INTEGRATION
In addition to courses, the Advanced Master in International Law offers
several complementary activities: visits of international and European
Institutions (such as the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of
the European Union, the International Court of Justice, etc.); evening
conferences on topical subjects; as well as international job-market
workshops. Moreover, since the number of admissions is limited, selected
students have a privileged relationship with professors, and are followed on
an individual basis.
MOOCS AND MICROMASTER ON EDX PLATFORM
UCL joined the edX consortium and offers Massive Open Online Courses.
Several professors of the Faculty of Law and Criminology have developed
MOOC content related to International Law.
A new online
MicroMaster in International Law
has been launched on the
platform.
This unique programme offers four graduate level MOOCs:
• International Law
• International Human Rights Law
• International Humanitarian Law
• International Investment Law
Students enrolling for the Verified Certificate track will receive 5 credits for
each course upon successful completion. The MicroMaster is awarded upon
the completion of the four courses.
Credits earned through the online MicroMaster programme can be valued
in the Advanced Master (LL.M.) in International Law offered on-campus at
Louvain-la-Neuve. Alternatively, the Advanced Master can be followed in full
on-campus.
