The IEEE Student Branch offers you the opportunity to learn about the life of &#8220;the father of information&#8221; !<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>In a blockbuster paper in 1948, Claude Shannon introduced the notion of a &#8220;<span class=\"mark7iql0o4fu\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">bit<\/span>&#8221; and laid the foundation for the information age. His ideas ripple through nearly every aspect of modern life, influencing such diverse fields as communication, computing, cryptography, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, cosmology, linguistics, and genetics. But when interviewed in the 1980s, Shannon was more interested in showing off the gadgets he\u2019d constructed \u2014 juggling robots, a Rubik\u2019s Cube solving machine, a wearable computer to win at roulette, a unicycle without pedals, a flame-throwing trumpet \u2014 than rehashing the past. Mixing contemporary interviews, archival film, animation and dialogue drawn from interviews conducted with Shannon himself, <\/i><em>The <span class=\"mark7iql0o4fu\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Bit<\/span> Player<\/em><i> tells the story of an overlooked genius who revolutionized the world, but never lost his childlike curiosity. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More than 30 people, some of which are students, attended the screening. Many attendees were impressed by the quality of the documentary. The IEEE Student Branch would like to thank Off the Fence for authorizing the projection of their excellent movie!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2015\/11\/30: PhD Movie is back !<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the success of the PhD Movie a few years ago, the IEEE Student Branch in part with the AsCii and ICTEAM held the screening of the PhD Movie 2 on the 30th of November, 2015 at Auditorium\u00a0Studio 11.<\/p>\n<p>The screening was free of charges, gathering more than 120 people. It was the occasion for PhD, graduate and undergraduate students to meet and exchange.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012\/03\/06: PhD Movie (from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phdcomics.com\/\">PhD comics<\/a>) came to Louvain-La-Neuve!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was the third screening in Belgium, the first in Wallonia: yet another chance to have fun watching the movie!<\/p>\n<p>The movie screening took place on Tuesday, March 6 2012, 08:30 pm, at Auditorium\u00a0Studio 11. The movie duration was 1 hour and 7 minutes, in English with English subtitles.<\/p>\n<p>Registration was mandatory,\u00a0but the event was totally free of charge.
