Genomics and proteomics

This laboratory has participated to international programmes aiming at the systematic sequencing of the genome of various species: Arabidopsis thaliana, Sinorhizobium meliloti, Leishmania major. Together with the team of P. Hols and J. Delcour, we have sequenced the genome of the bacteria Streptococcus thermophilus. Within a Walloon Region network, we have sequenced about 10,000 EST (expressed sequence tags) of industrial chicory.
Research projects centred on the systematic analysis of proteins are also developed by 2D electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. For instance, we study the protein profile of chicory roots at various growing stages. We also have a particular interest in membrane proteins which, although representing close to one-third of the cellular proteins, are poorly resolved by classical 2D electrophoretic analysis.
