Aims

The course aims at giving the necessary competences to carry through a research in sociology of family and sexuality. From a wide theme presented by the teacher, the students will have to express a precise question of research, to search and summarize the sociological literature in the field, to define problematics, to build hypotheses and concepts, to gather relevant (quantitative and qualitative) data in order to test the hypotheses, to analyze them, to present the results of the research and to discuss them.

Main themes

The theme changes each year and depends of the students choice.

Content and teaching methods

The content includes an unchanging methodological part and another part regerring to the choosed theme. The content of the sociological research on this theme is summarized by the teacher at the beginning of the course in a lecture. Afterwards, the method uses an alternation of lectures on each stage of a research and of concrete applications, realized by the students individually, in 'duets' or in 'quartets'; the research is made (most often) during the course or at home.
