Aims

The course aims firstly to teach students to present the history and content of a document of ecumenical dialogue with precision, as well as to point out the theological stakes.

Main themes

It aims secondly to study the ecclesiology of the ecumenical movement throughout its history (a free choice of more particular themes).

Content and teaching methods

2002-2003 :

Study of the document " Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry " (Faith and Constitution Commission of the COE, Lima, 1982) and its reception by various Churches, Roman Catholic and Lutheran, most particularly. Extending this, we will also study the last document of the International Roman Catholic - Lutheran Commission : " Understanding the Church in the Light of the Doctrine of Justification " (1993).
Is this a
" substantial accord " permitting the re-establishment of communion between the two Churches? Since then, 31 October 1999, a " Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification " was signed by the Roman Catholic Church and the World Lutheran Federation. Does the authorized reception of this accord, based on a " differentiated consensus ", open a new era in ecumenical relations ?

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Evaluation: Oral examination: students can present a document they have studied in-depth.
Material: texts of ecumenical documents
