Listening Comprehension
At the end of the course, the student should
Individually : o be able to understand the main points of TV-programmes about familiar subjects, provided that the language is pronounced clearly.
o be able to follow the general plan of short presentations about familiar subjects, provided that the language is pronounced clearly.
Interactively : o be able to follow a clearly articulated speech within an everyday conversation, occasionally having some words or expressions repeated.

Speaking Skills
At the end of the course, the student should
Individually:
o be able to make a short presentation about a subject related to his/her everyday life, be able to give short explanations and justifications for his/her opinions, plans and actions. o be able to easily carry out a direct and non-complex description of subjects related to his/her interests and everyday life.
Interactively :
o be able to face a limited number of direct and simple questions o be able to take part in a conversation about a familiar subject, express his/her personal opinion and exchange information about that subject (holidays, family, hobbies

Writing Skills
At the end of the course, the student should
o Be able to write short and simple notes in connection with concrete needs.

Code
Knowledge of basic vocabulary (2000 basic words) and structures of Dutch. Reinforcement and extension of vocabulary. As far as speaking skills are concerned, the course focuses more on communicative skills than on correction.
Culture
For all the skills aforementioned: introduction to Flemish and Dutch culture
Main themes
The course is articulated around different subjects (e.g. hobbies, travel, home, advertisement
). Students study Dutch "in context", based on authentic documents (reading and listening comprehension). Basic vocabulary and structures are trained, reinforced and expanded via written and oral exercises (role-plays, interviews, conversations in small groups of 2 or 4
).
Content and teaching methods
NEER 1330 - intermediate level (first part)
- 30-hours course taught 2 hours a week during one term (15-hours course taught 1 hour a week during one term
depending on the results obtained in the placement test ).

This course is also open for the students SOCA 11 BA, COMU 11 BA and HUSO 11 BA - 3 ECTS
Pre-requisites :
Students must have attended a course corresponding (at least) to level A2 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (CEF).
A placement test is organised at the beginning of the year. The results obtained at this test determine the course level the student should follow (either Elementary - NEER 1130, or Intermediate first part - NEER 1330).
Aims :
B1 level of the CEF the reading and listening skills, B1- of the CEF for the speaking skills and A2 level of the CEF for the writing skills.
Contents and pedagogical approach :
- vocabulary and grammar exercises
- listening and reading comprehension exercises.
- individual and interactive speaking exercises
- writing exercises (to some extent)
- texts and activities on subjects of general interest (hobbies, travel, home,
).
Evaluation : continuous assessment (oral and written tests)

- Course: 2h/week during one term
In BAC 1 the course takes place during the second term.
In BAC 2 the course takesplace during the first term.
- Prerequisites :
Students must have attended a course corresponding (at least) to level A2 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (European Council).
A placement test is organised at the beginning of the year. The results obtained at this test determine the course level the student should follow (either Elementary - NEER 1130, or Intermediate first part - NEER 1330).
It is possible for BAC 1 students in "Sociology and Anthropology", "Communication and Information" and "Human and Social Sciences" to attend this course instead of the Elementary course. Provided they pass the exam of this course (B1 level) at the end of BAC 1, these students will be exempted from and obtain the credits for the course in BAC 2

Courses in groups of max. 30 students.
The teacher is available during office hours and can be contacted by e-mail.
Guidance at the "Centre d'Auto-Apprentissage" (C.A.A.) and the Multimedia Room.
