Aims

This course is for to the future physician who will work in Europe, to be able to identify the most important tropical diseases affecting the travellers or the immigrants.
The priority is given to the clinical diagnosis and to the treatment of the life threatening diseases. The student will also become able to recognize some other frequent problems.
The course is also an opportunity to exercise the clinical skills in infectious diseases.

Content and teaching methods

The course is oriented to the clinical diagnosis, not the epidemiology nor the identification of the parasites or micro-organisms in the lab.
The treatment of malaria, typhoid fever, and rickettsiosis will be discussed in depth. For the other diseases, the student will receive written information

Filariasis (lymphatic, Loa-Loa, onchocercosis, streptocerciasis)
Schistosomiasis
Hydatic kysts
Malaria
African trypanosomiasis
African and asiatic rickettsiosis
Tropical viral diseases
Typoid fever, plague, and anthrax
Cutaneous parasitic diseases
Tropical venereal diseases
