Aims

After following this course durant two years, the student should know the coptic language enough to make research on unpublished texts.

Main themes

Further study of sahidic coptic ; initiation to the other coptic dialects ; initiation to reading of manuscript texts.

Content and teaching methods

Reading and comment of selected textes in various dialects. Part of those texts will be studied directly on photographic reproductions of manuscripts.
The texts may be choosen according the current research of the professor and/or the students.
The students prepare and explain the texts ; then they are discussed under the supervision of the professor, with the purpose of exploring more accurately the various aspects of the coptic language, and to develop the ability to resolve the difficulties in understanding and explaining the texts.

Prerequisite : GLOR 1811 or adequate knowledge of the coptic language.
Evaluation : continuous evaluation through the involvement in the preparation of the lessons, and oral exam at the end of the year.
