Aims

The student will be able to read an Ougaritic text on writing tablets. Translation and philological comment of texts.

Main themes

Reading and study of some Ougaritic works, rituals and mythological extracts. The grammar of this language will be progressively seen while reading the texts. Epigraphical exercises based on the mouldings lent by the University of Lyon 2.

Content and teaching methods

Reading and study of letters, rituals and mythological extracts. Stenciled notes are distributed to the students. Bibliographical research.

Prerequisite : students are expected to be familiar with a Semitic language.
Evaluation : preparation of an unseen text.
Texts and books : Photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.
