Aims

At the end of the course, students will be able :
- to structure a systematic reflection on the relationships between education and economical development, job and unemployment; technological evolutions; inequality of opportunity and discrimination; incomes inequality.
- To use the tools of economical analysis in the treatment of these themes and those related to the management of the educational system.

- education as an investment in human capital
- financing and organisation of the educational system
- economical analysis of the politics of education

Content and teaching methods

- the individual benefits of education: analysis of the notion of human capital
- the nature of education as a good and its implication in the financing
- the supply of education and training: economical analysis of the functioning and of the management of the education and training systems
- enterprises and training
- the "third sector" as "producer" of education
- the growing role of competencies or the question of the new inequalities

Presentation and discussion of theories, concepts and methods used by the education economists. These theories are discussed in the light of the results of many empirical, micro and macro-analyses made by economists of education, of development or of work.

Individual assessment by a multiple choice questionnaire on the main points of the course.
Written group report about a question of the course.

A collection of texts and a bibliography are proposed at the beginning of the course + website with presentation, auto-rating exercises,…
The pedagogy adapted to adults includes the link theory/practice, work in groups, formative evaluation, collective and individual taking over of the contents. Illustrations in the various fields of adults education and formation: lifelong education, special education, continuing education, educational field, etc.
