Aims

Aim at emphasizing the general characteristics of the African cultures and the importance of the oral texts within these cultures.

Main themes

Presenting representative cultural facts which are at the base of the insertion of the African in his community and which model his behavior, his way of thinking, his interaction with the others and to the world.

Content and teaching methods

Content :

The African oral texts are agents of the cultural memory and vehicles of the knowledge. In an intercultural approach, the course emphasizes the major characteristics of the oral cultures, while underlining, on the basis of example, that any human being is deeply anchored in a culture. The oral literary kinds are analysed in the sociocultural contexts of their use, by stressing the sociopsychologic motivations which animate the users. Approached in the intercultural spirit, this course gives the opportunity of a real exchange with the students starting from their own culture and investigations on the ground.

Method:

Analyzing concepts, approaches and basic theoretical supports of the Africanist discipline. Investigations on the ground.
