Aims

To lead the student to establish the link between language and culture through the comparative analysis of conceptual fields.

Main themes

Main topics :

Comparative analysis French/African language of conceptual fields. The African language and the concepts to be analyzed are to be determined.

Content and teaching methods

Contents :

The course highlights the identity function of the African languages and their influence on the verbal communication in situations of contact between languages and cultures. The identity function emerges from the analysis of the languages as a means of expression by which the speakers define their universe, translate their vision of the world and segment their experiences. The comparative analysis of conceptual fields will reveal that words, while stating and conveying data in a given language, also define and precise its meaning.

Methods :

Methodology: the analysis of the selected concepts is undertaken in real situations of speech. The student is brought to carry out a linguistic investigation (individually or in teams) amongst people who speak African languages.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

The student is evaluated on the basis of the comparative study of a conceptual field of his choice. Teaching support: bibliography, texts, fields materials.
