Aims

This course is intended to ROM students who have acquired the elementary level (A2). At the end of the course they are expected to have reached the B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This course must be followed parallement to the courses of Spanish given by the faculty Philosophie et Lettres de l'UCL without which the student cannot reach the C1 level expected required to continue ESPA2412 course.

Main themes

Reading Comprehension (B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):
- Can understand relatively long texts written primarily in a current language
- can understand contemporary literary prose

Listening Comprehension (B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):
- Can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument the topic are
reasonably familiar.
- Can understand most TV news and explicitly current affairs programmes
- Can understand the majority of films in standard dialect.

Speaking (B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):
- can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his/her field of interest
- can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his/her field of interest.
- can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Writing production:
- can write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
- can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest Expression

Code:
- To consolidate and extend the basic vocabulary of standard Spanish, taking into account the colloquial and "argot"
Spanish register.
- To control the principal grammatical contents and the linguistic exhibitors of basic Spanish and to extend them.
- To pronounce the different standard Spanish sounds correctly and to be able to put them in relation to its writing
with ease and correction.

Culture:
The course proposes a process of sensitizing to the Spanish-speaking countries culture through several exercises of listening comprehension and speaking.
The use of cinema to introduce the Spanish socio-cultural world.

Content and teaching methods

- Course of 60h (2h per week) during 1st and 2nd semester.
- Course de 1st cycle BAC2/BAC3 ROM/FLTR.

Prerequisites :
- To have followed the courses proposed by the FLTR faculty.
- To have registered the course in the program of studies.
- This course must be followed in parallel with to the courses of Spanish given by the Faculty of Arts.

Objectives (in terms of competences)
This course is intended to ROM students who have acquired the elementary level (A2). At the end of the course they are expected to have reached the B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Course materials :
- To develop systematically receptive and oral student competences and to introduce them to the handling of the written language and listening comprehension. The objective of the course is to carry out, as much as possible, a personalized accompaniment of the students. To achieve the goals of the course, the students have at their disposal a syllabus, created for this purpose.
- In addition, the students will have to follow in parallel the exercises suggested in the data-processing platform of the University "Icampus".

Assessment :
Continuous Assessment with different tests throughout the year on the different linguistic competences.

Course materials:
To develop systematically receptive and oral student competences and to introduce them to the handling of the written language and listening comprehension. The objective of the course is to carry out, as much as possible, a personalized accompaniment of the students. To achieve the goals of the course, the students have at their disposal a syllabus, created for this purpose:
- ESPA1800: didactic materials made by the professor as a syllabus. This syllabus is centered in two fundamental parts, one giving a detailed attention to the morpho-syntactic and semantic bases and the other giving a detailed attention to the development of listening comprehension by means of exercises on audio-visual materials available to the CAA of the ILV. The typology of exercises is much diversified: grammar exercises, videos, songs, role plays in groups, forums via Internet, etc.
- In addition, the students will have to in parallel follow the exercises suggested in the data-processing platform of the University "Icampus".

Workload:
Course hours: 90 H
Autonomous work: 130 H

Pedagogical accompaniment:
- the ideal number of students by group is of 20 maximun
- the teacher is available in her hours of reception
