Aims

At the end of this course, the students will be able to:
- design a removable partial denture according to the anatomical characteristics of a partially edentulous mouth, to the specific mechanical criteria to this type of prosthesis and to the patient requirements or aesthetic wishes .
- establish a coherent scheme work and to choose the techniques the most suitable for the achievement of the prosthesis.

Main themes

- To approach the rigidity and elasticity concepts, in response to the requirements a removable partial denture, in term of support, stabilization and retention
- To determine the influence of the characteristics of the bearing tissues (remaining teeth and edentulous ridges) on the design of the prosthesis.
- To evaluate the different partially edentulous states and to determine their incidence
on the achievement of the prosthesis.

Content and teaching methods

Contents:
- This course describes the various components of a removable partial denture, relates them to the criteria and/or characteristics necessary to take into account in the conception of a prosthesis anwsering to the biological mechanical and aesthetic requirements. The achievement techniques are approached from the dentist point of view as well as the dental technician one. They are developed and justified according to the complexity of the treatment planning and the type of the edentulous state

Method:
- magisterial statement illustrated by many clinical cases.
- Possibility of beginning each course with " questions and answers " related to with the previous lecture
- practical demonstrations related to the specific teeth preparation

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Pre-necessary
- knowledge of anatomy, occlusion; dental materials, fixed prostheses and complete denture

Evaluation
- the final oral examination takes place after a written preparation.

Support
- Syllabus, slides and video
