Aims

Reading Comprehension
At the end of the reading comprehension module, the student should be able to understand a short factual text in English about a legal topic without necessarily grasping all the details.
(B1 Level of the CEF).

Listening Comprehension.
At the end of the listening comprehension module, the student should be able to understand a clearly articulated communication, be it general or slightly oriented towards his/her field of interest, ie. legal topics.
(B1 level of the CEF).

Communicative skills.
At the end of the course, students should be able
- to introduce themselves and their family, as well as speak about their life environment in simple terms.
- To give a short , well-prepared talk about a familiar topic.
(A2 level of the CEF).

Writing skills
Students will be able to write a short message inquiring about basic information.
(A1 level of CEF).

Main themes

Usage.
Students will have studied
1. 2000 basic vocabulary items.
2. English Verb System ( elementary level)
3. Pronunciation of 2000 basic words.

Culture: Reading and listening comprehension activities focus on English cultural habits and tradition.

Prerequisite
This elementary course is intended for students who never studied English at school.

Workload
- Classroom hours: 52h
- Self-study: 68h

Pedagogical framework and support
- very small group
- course notes and CD-Rom (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation exercises)
- self-tuition centre of the ILV with access to the listening comprehension material covered in class
- multi-media room of the ILV
- Teacher available by appointment

Assessment
- continuous assessment ( tests at regular intervals, all year round)
- written exam
- reading aloud of a limited number of words.
