Intrigué et fasciné par les révélations et les reconstitutions de la forteresse de Bouhen proposées par Walter B. Emery, Franck Monnier s’est passionné durant de nombreuses années pour la fortification égyptienne dont la richesse architecturale et l’originalité semblent encore très méconnues dans la littérature égyptologique. Les découvertes importantes, effectuées ces dernières années dans le Delta oriental et relayées périodiquement par la presse, ont intensifié l’attente d’un large public intéressé par la fortification et/ou par l’Égypte en général. Cet ouvrage est inédit car il propose une vue complète, claire et accessible de toute l’architecture militaire de l’Égypte pharaonique connue à ce jour. A great many monuments are described, with the location and condition indicated for every one, many are given with reconstruction. Not only fortresses are analyzed, but also long walls, city fortifications, fortified villages and fortified temples. The monograph is provided with drawings of many unique iconographic artifacts and is enriched with numerous reconstructions, photographs, plans and maps. Many reconstructions have been made by the author himself. Bibliography is at the end, references to the sources and literature are given per page."
