Message from the Coordinator
Let me again thank all participants at the DYSCO study day, and in particular the local organizing team of Michel Kinnaert and Pascale Lathouwers. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the two plenary talks; many thanks to Francis Bach and Georges (Jojo) Bastin, and also to all other contributors.
Let me congratulate Julien Hendrickx (UCL) who has received the EECI PhD Award, which is given annually in recognition of the best PhD thesis in Europe in the field of Embedded and Networked Control. The award will be given to Julien next week at the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), in Cancun, Mexico.
And now let me turn to a momentous event that honours one of the leading members of our network, but that is also a recognition of the leadership role of DYSCO in the international scientific community. Rodolphe SEPULCHRE, promotor of our Liège team, will be awarded the Antonio Ruberti Young Researcher Award at the IEEE CDC next week. This prize, initiated in 2005, is administered by the IEEE Control Systems Society and funded by the Antonio Ruberti Foundation (Ruberti was European Commissioner for Science, Research and Education). It is awarded every year, since 2005, to the best young researcher (no more than 40 years) in systems and control. It is a tribute to Rodolphe's scientific accomplishments and leadership that he has been selected as the 4-th recipient of this award since its inception. But what is truly extraordinary is that out of the four prizes awarded so far, two have gone to members of DYSCO, the other one being Vincent BLONDEL, who received the award in 2006. The other two recipients were Richard Braatz (University of Illinois, USA) and Alessandro Astolfi (Imperial College, UK). These two awards out of four given to DYSCO members are clearly a quality stamp for our network. So let me conclude with warm congratulations to Rodolphe.
These awards (to Julien and to Rodolphe) sound like a nice Christmas gift. Let me thus wish you all a very happy Christmas.
See you in January.
