By the end of the course, holders of the Master in Biomedical Sciences will be capable of doing high level 3rd cycle or will have acquired the necessary skills to pursue a career in the fields of toxicology, human nutrition or clinical biomedical sciences.
Four focuses are available :
A research focus centred on cellular and molecular biology with optional modules. This prepares students for scientific research and provides general training for a career as a researcher.
Three professional focuses enable students to acquire professional skills in a specialized discipline in biomedical sciences :
Professional focus in human nutrition
Professional focus in toxicology
Professional focus in clinical biomedical sciences.

Cellular and molecular biology
The training is centred on additional studies in all the ‘basic’ disciplines studied at bachelor level, as well as an introduction to high level experimental research through the final assignment. It forms a bridge to high level research and development. By the end of the course, students will be able to contribute to the study of cellular and molecular organisms which are the beginning of a pathology.
Human nutrition
This training in nutrition is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in nutrition with the possibility of a basic option course and a clinical one. By the end of the course, students will have acquired the necessary skills to understand the role of nutrition in maintaining health and well-being but also in the prevention and treatment of the most common illnesses in modern society. This training enables students to go on to work in the agri-food industry, teaching institutions, research institutes and public health bodies.
Toxicology
The training in toxicology develops skills which enable students to understand and guard against the toxicity of chemical substances used by man or produced through his actions.
The training in toxicology requires knowledge in analytical chemistry, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry and provides an introduction to physiopathology, pathology and the use of epidemiological and biostatistical data. It develops skills in the field of the assessment of potential risks linked to the production and use of or repeated exposure to chemical substances and also the diagnosis and treatment of acute or chronic toxic effects.
Clinical biomedical sciences
This focus is designed to train professionals in the field of clinical research i.e. involving more the ill person and the illness as the subjects of observation and hypothesis.
The teaching covers an introduction to pathology, training in pharmacology and the study of the main tools for diagnosis and treatment. By the end of the course, students will be capable of taking part in clinical research, analyzing the results in different computerized and statistical ways and interpreting them correctly.
The programme is made up as follows :
1.) core subjects of 70 credits.
2.) a research focus or one of three professional focuses of 30 credits.
3.) an optional subject of 20 credits.
