The general objective of this programme is to provide advanced training for psychologists who wish to work in the field of clinical psychology for children, teenagers and adults.
The precise objectives are:
– to improve practical knowledge relating to psychological interviews, psychological assessment in the areas of psychopathology, interpersonal relations and learning and development difficulties, planning and implementation of an intervention project and evaluation of its effectiveness (in coordination with other professionals), working in a network and the management of interprofessional relationships. These objectives are achieved through different kinds of teaching : for example, case analysis and discussion, learning by problem solving and presentations by professionals.
– to promote the application of theoretical and practical knowledge in a clinical environment and the acquisition of professional skills through a placement and a seminar on practice.
– to emphasize the links between theoretical and practical knowledge by producing a dissertation in the form of a detailed case study or applied research.

The training, including the placement, the assessments and the production of a dissertation, is for 60 credits, which may be spread over three years.

The Advanced Joint Master is an inter-university training programme worth 60 credits. At the end of the programme, a degree is jointly awarded by the partner universities (Louvain Aacademy / University of Geneva).

Special procedures :
The special admission conditions for this programme are as follows :

Students who hold a Master or equivalent level in Psychology may join the programme of the Advanced Master inMultidisciplinary Psychotherapy. Candidates must be able to provideevidence of supervised clinical activity of at least 900 hours within the framework of a programme approved by the Advanced Joint Master or undertake to provide such evidence before the end of the programme.
As far as the prerequisites are concerned, candidates may submit a request for equivalence to the academic committee of the Advanced Joint Master programme providing they can produce evidence of a minimum of 900 hours of supervised clinical activity in the area of clinical psychology or psychiatry.

Students must enrol and pay the relevant enrolment fees in the university or academy of their choice. If students only enrol at the partner institution, they must also enrol at the Louvain Academy in the year when their degree is to be awarded. The basic Belgian university enrolment fee does not cover the additional costs of fulfilling these admission requirements.

Importance given to practical training : the work placement and the dissertation account for half the 120 credits in the programme. These activities are closely supervised by all the professors and assistant teaching staff at the Faculty.

There will be a written examination for courses with high attendance. For other courses there will either an oral examination, individual work or group work. Further details can be found in the course specifications.


Internationalisation
There are partnerships with the University of Geneva : a part of the Master in Psychology (20 credits) may be taken in this partner universitie.
