Content
The different aspects of the surgical management of cardiovascular pathologies are addressed under the different themes of this multi-disciplinary specialty. Among the topics covered are the principles and use of cardiopulmonary bypass, including certain physiological aspects, coronary pathology and the different methods of revascularization, valve pathology, repair techniques and long-term results, heart failure surgery, including ventricular assist devices and transplantation. Finally, the surgical management of congenital heart disease, including a large chapter devoted to the circulatory physiology of the newborn and its pecularities in the context of the use of extracorporeal circulation.
