As part of the 'Air de Jeux' research project, which has won a prestigious Skidmore Owings and Merril (SOM) Foundation European award, and which aims to develop environmental pavilions in the city of Brussels to reduce children's exposure to air pollution and improve urban play, the main theme of the teaching unit is the design of an urban pavilion for children.
The design of the pavilion will have to meet the following criteria:
For those who have never used Rhino/grasshopper before, don't worry!
No prior knowledge of digital tools is required. All we ask is that you come to the class with a dash of motivation and enthusiasm!
The design of the pavilion will have to meet the following criteria:
- the pavilion should be small-scale, ephemeral and mobile
- it should use readily available materials
- it will reduce children's exposure to air pollution, by filtering the air and providing shelter for children, etc.
- include a play area
- and finally, it should be easy to build through participatory processes...

Teaching methods
For 10 weeks (7 days in Tournai + 3 days in Brussels), one day of courses per week using a mixed pedagogical systems (alternating theoretical courses, seminar sessions, workshop sessions and work in autonomy). During the examination session, a jury is organized to evaluate the final work.
Evaluation methods
Students are assessed as a group:
- group formative evaluation during the 1st pre-jury;
- group formative evaluation during the 2nd pre-jury;
- group certification assessment in session during the presentation of the final work.
