Introducing the students to musical palaeography and pretonal musical languages, from the origins of musical notations (Carolingian period) until the 16th century. |
Content
In 2023-2024, te course covers the emergence of musical notation in the 9th and 10th centuries, as well as white proportional notation used in 15th and 16th century polyphony.
Teaching methods
Lecture course illustrated through Powerpoint presentations and exercices.
Evaluation methods
Written assignments and oral exam. Half of the assessment is for the "plainsong" part and half for the "polyphony" part.
