Main themes
Each group of students chooses a theme in agreement with the teacher. The themes are all related to recent developments in the protection of fundamental rights.
Content
The following are examples of topics that may be covered in group work.
1. Should the right to abortion be enshrined in the constitution?
2. Should “sex” be removed from civil status? Possible responses to Constitutional Court ruling no. 99/2019 based on comparative law.
3. What legal regime for people born intersex? Comparative (and/or interdisciplinary) law analysis.
4. Legal and societal issues surrounding the recognition of Buddhism in Belgium.
5. The fight against harmful sectarian organisations.
6. The contribution of the new offence of “femicide” to the Belgian legal arsenal.
7. Protecting children's rights on social networks.
8. What future for the right to bear arms in the United States?
9. The fight against global warming: what legal response(s)?
10. Etc.

Teaching methods
After two joint sessions, students are divided into groups of four or five to work on a common topic. However, each part of the work identifies who has written which part of the common work. Each member of the group is asked to write between 10 and 15 pages.
Evaluation methods
Assessment is based exclusively on the group work and the oral presentation, which takes place in December. The assessment covers both the personal work done by each student and the final group work.
Both the form and content of the work will be assessed. More specifically, the work will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
1) as regards the written work:
- quality of writing (including style and spelling);
- scientific rigour (including legal methodology);
- appropriateness of the plan;
- critical thinking.
2) as regards the oral presentation:
- ability to summarise;
- pedagogical and homogeneous nature of the group presentation;
- dynamic nature of the presentation.
