Content
The seminar is centered on the completion by the student of a personal research assignment, presented and discussed during the seminar, on the design of data collection and analysis protocols regarding the relations between the media technologies and the practices, competences or knowledge developed by their users, envisaged
  • either in terms of media literacy developed by the user;
  • or in terms of the educational effects of media;
  • or in terms of cognitive consequences of the use of the technology.
The seminar focuses on the acquisition of methodological skills in the field of media technology research. Accordingly, it will focus on themes and fields that vary from year to year depending on changing trends in the relevant research area and the students' dissertation projects.
Teaching methods
  • Directed research work: implementation by students (individually or in groups) of a research protocol on a theme related to the seminar. Assessment of the protocol, and of the coherence between its hypotheses, its methodological approach and its conclusions.
  • Presentation and discussion in class of the students' work, in several stages (at least: initial research questions, progress report at mid-term, final presentation at the end of the term).
Evaluation methods
The student is evaluated on the basis of his or her (individual or group) research work:
  • development of the research protocol over the course of the semester, as presented in class and detailed in intermediate documents (50% of the final grade);
  • finalized research protocol, as presented in a written paper at the end of the seminar (50% of the final grade).
Other information
The seminar constitutes for the student one of the places of integration of the various teachings in the field of mediated communication of knowledge.
