At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
This Unit has several components: oral comprehension, oral expression and phonetics (practical or applied exercises). By following this course, students learn to recognize and use syllabic stress, rhythm and intonation; to identify specific words, expressions, and information (numbers, names, etc.) ; and to understand and reformulate the gist of an authentic oral, i.e. spoken text. The Unit also provides students with an opportunity to improve their oral skills over the course of the year, with the goal of attaining the European Reference Framework level B1 (minimum level required to pass the Unit). A range of specific skills are covered, including: making a presentation; understanding and using the cultural components of the Turkish language (usage, polite forms, register, etc.). |

Content
The course focuses on the language used in a range of everyday situations (introductions, family, making a phone call, making a booking, making an appointment, etc.)
These themes are addressed through a wide range of communication-based (language functions) activities (dialogues, descriptions, joining in a conversation, role play, etc.) and using a range of visual, audio and audio-visual supporting materials.

Teaching methods
- Practical/applied exercises in receptive skills (i.e. reading comprehension or comprehension of simple messages in standard language) requiring students' active participation;
- Practical oral exercises: role play, guided conversations, presentations, group work, etc.

Evaluation methods
At the end of each module, the evaluation of this course unit comprises a written assessment (multiple choice questionnaire, open questions) for the oral comprehension and an individual interview (summative and formative) for the oral expression (practice). Module 1 counts for 30% of the final mark and Module 2, 70%.
Oral expression and phonetics (50 % of final result)
• Continuous (formative) assessment based on student presentations, active participation, submitting homework and projects regularly (25 % of final result).
AND
• Summative evaluation based on final individual oral exam at the end of the semester (25 % of final result).
Oral compréhension (50 % of final result)
Summative written assessment (multiple choice questionnaire, open questions)

The continuous assessment mark will not be taken into account.
