By the end of the course, students should know the legal and doctrinal texts and decisions of jurisprudence and they should be able to analyse them in the light of the transversal themes studied during the year.

Content
The course consists of the examination of legal texts, doctrinal texts and jurisprudence decisions concerning criminal litigation or measures that have not been dealt with (or not in depth) during the second year of the law degree.
Each session consists in dissecting a particular theme (alternative sentences, execution of sentences, drugs, terrorism, recidivism, criminal records, Covid19, prisons, etc.) and understanding the legal, political and institutional issues at stake.
Teaching methods
The course consists of a lecture centred on the examination of legal, doctrinal and jurisprudential texts, in relation to the themes addressed. Experts and professional actors are regularly invited to illustrate the subject and visits to places related to the course are organised during the year (as far as possible and depending on the number of students).
Students are also regularly invited to debates with key actors in the justice system.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation is based on the active participation of the students in the course as well as on the end-of-year work, which consists of elaborating a project or a law proposal, related to the subjects seen in the course. Depending on the number of students, the work is presented in an oral examination.
Other information
The course refers to legal and doctrinal texts as well as jurisprudential decisions made available on the Saint Louis University website.
