Content for the epidemiology module :
- Introduction to epidemiology: history of epidemiology, definition and components
- Natural history of a disease, causality and causal reasoning
- Epidemiological observation: data sources, types of variables
- Frequency measures in epidemiology: indicators of morbidity, mortality and standardization
- Types of studies in epidemiology
- Measures of effect in epidemiology: association measures and impact measures
- Bias in epidemiology, including diagnostic tests and introduction to multivariable models
- The age and sex composition of the population and the components of population dynamics,
- Sources of demographic data
- Demographic and epidemiological transitions
- Tools for mortality analysis
- Population aging and population projections
Teaching methods
The course will involve lectures illustrated with concrete examples from the scientific literature. It will be accompanied by exercises and the review of a scientific epidemiological paper in english.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation will consist of:
- For the module on epidemiology: TPs (for 2/20) and a written exam (for 11/20)
- For the module on demography: a written exam (for 7/20)
