Other information
There is a growing interest in preventing and controlling new introductions of pathogens and diseases into animal herds. Preventing the occurrence of such diseases requires higher levels of biosecurity and requires adaptation of the academic training of veterinarians.
The basic principles of biosecurity are: (i) biosecurity aims to reduce the risk of introduction and spread of infection; (ii) people’s actions are fundamental in the application of biosecurity and (iii) biosecurity consists of three main steps (isolation, cleaning and disinfection); isolation being the most effective action and disinfection the least effective. Information, awareness and training should start in every university involved in the training of veterinarians
