At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

Content
The "Translation Tools & Documentation" course is composed of two sections. The aim of the "Documentation" component is to teach students the documentary acquisition process which is essential to any specialized translation/interpretation project. The "Documentation" component will also introduce students to the use of corpora and concordancers (SketchEngine©) as CAT tools. Based on theoretical lectures and practical exercises on the computer, the "Translation Tools" component aims to teach students to master the following tools: the translation environment (MS Office©), terminology management system (SDL MultiTerm©) and translation memories (SDL Studio©). The practical exercises are also designed to enable student to identify the advantages and limitations of such tools as part of their future professional practice.

This course is subdivided into two parts (part A "Translation Tools" and part B "Documentation") and has two separate exams. In case of a fail grade, you’re invited to contact the department’s secretary and check the details. The global mark is the weighted average of the marks for parts A and B. In the global mark, Part A "Translation Tools" is worth 40% and Part B "Documentation" is worth 60%. In case of a fail grade, only the part failed during the January session will be the subject of the August/September session. In case of an unjustified absence at one of the two parts, students will have to retake the two parts during the August/September exam session. If the course is not validated at the end of a year, the two parts must be presented the following year.
