1 By the end of this instruction, students will be aware of the evolution and present perspectives of the region's historiography, the accent being put on the principal lines of historical development as they emerge from the major currents of historical research. This historiography is far from unanimous in the questions it asks.

Content
In this unit, the history of Latin America is studied on the basis of reading files and topics in order to provide students with the keys to understanding contemporary Latin American contexts.
This course aims on the one hand to provide a basic understanding of the history of Latin America, but also to analyse European and Latin American historiographies from the colonisation of Latin America. It provides an opportunity for students to decentralise history by analysing the texts and methods of both Latin American and European historians and academics.
We will focus on the following points:
  • Pre-Columbian America
  • Modern times. The "encounter" between two worlds: Colonial Latin America. European and Latin American Historiography. Modernity and Coloniality Group.
  • Era of revolutions: from the independence revolutions to the 20th century revolutions.
  • 20th century Latin America
  • Specific country case (varies each year)
The course is designed as an opportunity to share historical information and open, dialogical analysis.
Teaching methods
One part of the course will be taught and the other part will be interactive, based on a dossier of readings to be discussed and analysed together. The dossier will be made up of written documents, images, historical information and historiographical interpretations of the historical development of Latin America, with particular attention to the diversity of methodological, historiographical, ideological and cultural approaches.
Evaluation methods
Oral exam based on the course and a paper to be presented during the exam (instructions will be given on Moodle).
These conditions are applicable for June and September.
