This course deals with history and culture of the Christian East, a geographically vast, highly heterogeneous, multilingual and multi-religious world.
Based on textual sources, the course deals with a series of themes relating to the great historical and cultural periods of the Christian communities of the Middle East in the medieval and premodern era.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

Based on textual sources, the course deals with a series of themes relating to the great historical and cultural periods of the Christian communities of the Middle East in the medieval and premodern era.By the end of the course, students are familiar with a rigorous scientific approach to textual sources and specific subjects about the history of Eastern Christian communities.
They will learn to use the main sources and reference books for carrying out (individually or in group) a small research topic and presenting it to the class. The student will be able to use the main reference works relating to the subjects (dictionaries, corpus of sources, historical atlases, monographs, etc.).

Teaching methods
The course requires active participation of students and gives space for discussions. Students will carefully read the documents posted on Moodle, in order to prepare each session. They will study a specific topic of their choice which is to be presented both orally and in a written summary. The course is accompanied by ppt presentations.
Evaluation methods
The final note is based on the oral presentation and the written work. The assessment of active participation in the course is also taken into consideration.
