Provide a foundation course in Dutch phonetics, phonology and morphology. The students should also be able to analyse reference books with a criticizing mind. |
Content
The course is an introduction to Dutch phonetics, phonology and morphology.
Phonetics and phonology (vowels, diphthongs, consonants; co-articulation; accentuation and intonation).
Morphology (especially lexical morphology, loanwords and neologisms).

Mixed approach of lectures, reading of scientific articles and exercises.
Evaluation methods
Oral examination in the June and August/September session
The final grade of the course will be the average of the following three grades:
- one grade out of 20 for the 'morphology' part
- one grade out of 20 for the 'phonetics/phonology' part
- one grade out of 20 for the oral command of the language (pronunciation [segmental and suprasegmental levels], grammar, lexicon)
