At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The main objectives of this workshop are to teach students: " To develop coherent economic argument; " Reading and summary skills; " To development arguments and written skills; " To present an argument; " To work in a group.
 
Content
During this seminar, students will write a report analyzing the patterns of trade of a country, assess the benefits and risks associated with these patterns and derive policy recommendations as to the trade policy that the country will follow. The work has a large quantitative part as it requires downloading primary data and analyzing them with the help of a statistical software. It also requires the capacity to apply solid analytical economic reasoning to draw conclusions and policy recommendations. Students will also get acquainted with the main trade theories and debates on trade policy through this work.
Teaching methods
After some initial lectures and sessions on how to use Stata, students work in groups, including two compulsory meetings with the professor when they receive feedback on their work. At the end of the semester, all groups hand in their work and present in front of the class.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation for this seminar is mainly based on the report that students write in group and on their presentation of the report. Participation to the intermediary meetings and to the presentation is compulsory and active participation is an integral part of the final grade. The exact weight assigned to each component of the grade will be announced on Moodle at the start of the semester.
Other information
Some prior knowledge of microeconomics and econometrics would clearly be an asset.
The communication between the professor and the students takes place through the electronic platform Moodle. You should enroll in the course on Moodle to have access to the online documents such as course notes, slides and additional material that will be posted.
